The NBS Nelson Giants' centre, Matur is a young man with a big backstory.
Born in what is now known as South Sudan, Matur’s family fled the country to Uganda when he was a child amid a civil war. The family became refugees before eventually settling in Australia. At 13 he was discovered by a basketball scout and moving to the US. Since turning pro in 2018, Matur has played in Switzerland, Slovania, the US, Australia (which included winning an Australian NBL Championship with the Sydney Kings in 2021) and here in New Zealand.
